SANTA PARADE IS BACK!

After 2 years off due to covid concerns, the Santa Parade will be returning to downtown Mount Carmel.   For almost 7 decades the Lions parades have brought Santa to the borough.  This year the club is excited to be partnering with the Mount Carmel V.F.W  Post 2110 .  Co-chairpersons Suellen Poplaskie, VFW Club Steward and Lion J. Kevin Jones have announced that the event will be held on Saturday, December 17th and will begin at 11:00am. The parade will be lead by the Mount Carmel Area High School band and Santa will ride on the Anthracite Fire Truck.  Mount Carmel emergency personnel also will be assisting. The route  is Third and Market west to Hickory, north to Second, west to Oak, then south on Oak to Sixth, east to Hickory, north on Hickory back again to Second then west to the VFW park adjacent to Post 2110 where children will meet with Santa.   The post will be supplying food and refreshments at the site and children will receive candy from Santa.  The committee also includes members of each and in some cases both organizations. They are Post Commander Mike Adams, Lions President Nevin Balliet, Laura Anderson, Dave Berezovske, Tony Candellora, Jeff Kanezo, Kerri Kondisko, Mike Shannon, Frank Zaleski as well as Poplaskie and Jones.

HOLIDAY DEER DISPLAY

The display is located on the southwest corner of the town park (right next to the Anthracite Fire Company). There will be two deer, usually a doe and a fawn. The deer will be delivered sometime on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving by workers of the Lake Tobias Wildlife Park of Halifax, PA and will stay until around January 2nd.

A "Name the Deer" contest will be held so watch your local newspaper for instructions.  Cash prizes of $25.00 each will be awarded to the 2 best names.

The deer will be fed shelled corn and alfalfa hay.  The public is not permitted to feed the deer.

Special thanks go to the Jones Family for donating the hay, corn and alfalfa, and Jack Williams and the Anthracite Fire Company for supplying the electricity for the Christmas lights, and all the local merchants, civic organizations, and concerned citizens who donate the money to make all of this happen.

Lions J. Kevin Jones, Kathleen Hoffman and Mike Magennis compose the Deer Display Committee.

Winners of the 2022 Name the Deer Contest are, pictured left to right: Lions Club Treasurer Kathleen Hoffman of Family Home Medical and Molly Taylor who named the doe (Birdie) and Bronson Pulaski who named the fawn (Snowflake).

Each winner received a $25.00 check from the Lions.

Also serving on the Deer Display Committee, along with Hoffman, are Lions J. Kevin Jones and Mike Magennis.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
